Things to Avoid (Day 1 especially):

• Avoid cleaning or throwing things out. The focus is on keeping abundance in, not clearing it out.
• Avoid washing hair. It is symbolically tied to “washing away” prosperity.
• Avoid wearing mourning colors like black or white. Lean into red, gold, and bright tones.
• Avoid arguments, complaining, or heavy topics. It is a tone-setting day.
• Avoid cutting hair, paper, or fabric. Cutting can symbolize severing luck.
• Avoid lending money. Tradition says it can set up a year of financial loss.
• Avoid breaking dishes. If something breaks, say something positive immediately to redirect the energy.
• Avoid negative language or words connected to loss, sickness, or death.

Things That ARE Encouraged:
• Open windows early to invite fresh qi energy in.
• Wear red or carry something red for protection and vitality.
• Give or receive small red envelopes, even symbolically.
• Eat foods that symbolize prosperity such as round fruits, long noodles for longevity, and dumplings for wealth.
• Speak intentions for the year out loud.
• Visit elders or call family. It is a time for renewing relationships.
• Keep lights on in the evening to symbolize continued brightness.
